Peniche - Wave Capital

Peniche is undoubtedly one of the most iconic surfing destinations in Europe and the world. Located on a unique peninsula on the central-west coast of Portugal, it benefits from an exceptional geographical location — exposed to different swell directions and, at the same time, protected at various points along the coast. This combination allows for consistent waves throughout virtually the entire year.

Just a 1 hour and 30 minute drive from Lisbon and about 40 minutes from Ericeira , Peniche is strategically positioned between two of the biggest national and international surfing hubs. Known as the Wave Capital , the region hosts stages of the World Surf League (WSL) , attracting the world's best surfers to compete at Supertubos , one of the most powerful and challenging waves in Europe. In addition to the world circuit, Peniche regularly hosts national championships and surfing events, reinforcing its reputation as a destination of excellence.

This "magical spot" stands out for its diversity, offering ideal conditions for both beginners and intermediate and more experienced surfers seeking new challenges. The combination of beaches with long, gentle waves, perfect for learning and progression, with more technical and tubular peaks, combined with a vibrant surfing community, makes Peniche a truly unique destination on the world surfing scene.

Where are we going to surf?

We surfed on the beaches of Peniche, Baleal and Ferrel , areas known for their huge variety of waves and ideal conditions for surfing throughout the year.

We work with beaches specifically designed for beginners , with sandy bottoms, gentle waves, and safe environments, perfect for those just starting out in surfing. For intermediate surfers, we choose beaches with more consistent and challenging waves, ideal for developing technique, reading the waves, and building confidence in the water.

The choice of beach is always made according to the sea conditions on the same day . We move to different beaches depending on the swell, wind, and tides, guaranteeing the best and safest possible experience for each level. All equipment is transported in our van and distributed to clients at the lesson location. Normally, we do not provide transportation for clients ; the meeting point is arranged beforehand so that everyone can join us at the selected beach.

Surf Spot - Supertubos

SuperTubos is perhaps the most famous surf spot in Peniche — known worldwide for its powerful and fast barrels. This beach has hosted several stages of the WSL Championship Tour and attracts experienced surfers seeking consistent and challenging waves. When conditions are right, SuperTubos offers impressive waves that delight those who enjoy high-performance surfing.

What's Going On In Peniche

Peniche is a city with its own identity, where surfing coexists alongside fishing traditions and local life. Unlike Baleal, which has a younger, more relaxed vibe and is very connected to the surf community—with more activity, socializing, and events throughout the year—Peniche maintains a calmer and more genuine pace.

It's a city marked by the sea, fishing, and local culture, with native people, ancient histories, and a strong connection to the ocean. Here you'll find excellent quality fish and seafood, simple yet authentic restaurants, and a genuine atmosphere, far from mass tourism.

In both Peniche and Baleal, small pleasures are part of everyday life: walking along the seashore, feeling the vibe of the surf community, or simply watching the sunset at a beach bar after a surf session. It is this balance between nature, culture, and surfing that makes Peniche such a special place to stay, learn, and experience surfing calmly and meaningfully.
